Compare wall panel colors and finishes

Choose the pattern at wall scale. A sample shows a small area of color and texture; the full slab image shows vein placement, grain direction and repeated faces.

Marble and travertine looks

Marble-look veins vary in scale and contrast. Check the position of the strongest veins around a TV or reception sign. Linear travertine-look patterns need an agreed orientation across the wall and its returns.

Wood and concrete looks

Wood-look panels have visible grain direction. Concrete-look panels have broader tonal variation, so joint position and lighting can be more noticeable than a single decorative vein.

Matte, soft gloss and polished finishes

Polished surfaces produce clearer reflections; matte and textured finishes scatter reflections more. Compare samples beside windows and wall lights. Select from the finishes actually offered for the chosen product.

What are sintered stone wall panels?

Sintered stone wall panels are manufactured mineral slabs cut and fixed to an interior wall as a decorative finish. The slab provides the visible surface; the substrate, adhesive or mechanical fixing, joints and any waterproofing form the rest of the wall assembly.

Large formats can reduce visible joints compared with small tiles. Marble-look, travertine-look and wood-look surfaces provide different patterns without using those natural materials. Check the full slab image for pattern scale and a physical sample for color, texture and reflection.

The main limitations are handling size, edge vulnerability during transport and fabrication, and the need for a suitable fixing system. A large slab can need fewer joints but more lifting space. Damaged panels can also be harder to replace than small tiles, especially when the original pattern or batch is no longer available.

The featured product listings show 6, 9, 12 and 15 mm options. For wall cladding, ask about 6 or 9 mm availability first, then have the installer confirm the required thickness and fixing system for the panel size and substrate. A product’s list of thicknesses does not confirm every format combination or approve it for every wall.

A 2600 mm nominal slab should not automatically be specified as a 2600 mm finished panel. Perimeter trimming, edge work and installation clearances can reduce the available finished dimension. Compare the production blank with the confirmed usable area before ordering.

Panel layout

Wall panel joints, vein direction and bookmatching

Draw panel joints on the wall elevation before cutting. Place doors, sockets, screens, signs and recesses on the same drawing. Keep the intended vein direction visible when checking whether each piece fits the usable slab area.

Bookmatching uses compatible mirrored faces across a joint. Vein matching follows a continuous pattern, while repeated faces reuse the same design. Rotating two identical slabs does not necessarily produce a bookmatch. Confirm the actual face images and panel sequence before approving a matched wall.

Arrange the main veins or linear pattern across the wall. Check the left-to-right sequence of adjacent panels and compare the pattern at each proposed joint. Confirm that the selected slab design is available in the required direction and dimensions.

Corners and openings

Confirm wall details before cutting

Mark joints, returns, recesses, corners, door openings and floor transitions before panel sizes and cutting requirements are estimated. These diagrams support quotation discussions and are not construction drawings.

Flat wall joints

Mark the proposed joint position, required pattern alignment and intended joint finish. The installer must confirm joint width and movement requirements for the selected wall assembly. Do not assume that adjoining panels can be installed without a joint.

Outside corners

Show which panel edge will be exposed and measure the adjoining return. Agree the corner finish and any fabrication requirements before ordering. The local team should also consider protection where people, luggage or equipment may contact the corner.

Inside corners

Measure both wall faces and show where the panels meet. Confirm whether the pattern is intended to continue onto the adjoining wall. Account for the corner joint and the installation sequence when preparing the panel schedule.

Door opening returns

Provide the finished opening width and height, frame position and reveal depth. Show the main wall panels and the smaller return pieces separately so their dimensions, edge finishes and joint positions can be reviewed.

TV and display recesses

Provide the recess width, height and depth, together with cable routes and ventilation requirements. Confirm how the equipment will be supported and removed for maintenance. Review cutouts before fabrication; changes made after delivery may require additional work or replacement panels.

Wall-to-floor transitions

Confirm the finished floor level, skirting height and any specified recessed joint at the base of the wall. Use these dimensions when calculating panel heights. The installer should confirm movement allowances and the installation sequence for the floor and wall finishes.

Final joint width, substrate preparation, structural loading, fixing system, waterproofing and installation tolerances must be confirmed by the project’s local installer, engineer or responsible design team.

Panel format comparison

Compare smaller panels and large slabs


Smaller panels create more joints across a given wall, but may be easier to transport through restricted access routes. Large slabs can reduce visible joints, while requiring more space and suitable handling equipment for transport, cutting and installation.

Choose the format by comparing the wall dimensions, usable slab area, cutouts, waste, access and installation requirements. A larger slab does not always produce the lowest total project cost. The comparison diagram shows joint arrangements only; it does not calculate an order quantity or define a fixing system.

Interior wall installation and maintenance

Check the wall assembly

Have the installer assess the substrate condition, flatness, load and moisture exposure. Confirm a compatible adhesive or mechanical fixing system for the selected slab. Keep building movement joints in the design and agree panel joint widths before fabrication.

Plan access and fabrication

Measure the entrance, lift, stairs and working area. Agree handling equipment, cutting locations, panel references and installation sequence. Support fixtures such as TV brackets and shelving through an approved fixing detail; the decorative panel alone is not the support design.

Clean the selected finish correctly

For routine cleaning, use a soft cloth and a mild cleaner compatible with the slab and joints, then remove residue. Follow the product care instructions for textured surfaces, installation residue and stains. Check cleaners against adjacent metal, sealant and painted finishes.

Bathroom and shower walls need a complete waterproofing system behind the finish. Fireplace walls require the appliance manufacturer’s clearances and temperature limits. These requirements apply to the substrate and fixing materials as well as the exposed panel.

What affects sintered stone wall panel cost?

Compare quotations using the same scope: slab material, cutting and edge work, packing, freight, unloading, substrate preparation, fixing materials and installation. A material price per square metre does not include all of these items. Pattern matching and difficult access can also change the quantity or work required.

Calculate the wall area before requesting a price

Net wall area = total wall width × height − openings + clad returns.

Example: a 4.8 m × 2.7 m wall is 12.96 m². Subtract a 0.9 m × 2.1 m door opening (1.89 m²) to obtain 11.07 m² before adding any clad door returns.

At 3.12 m² per nominal 1200 × 2600 mm slab, dividing 11.07 by 3.12 gives 3.55, rounded up to four slabs as an area-only lower bound. The cutting layout may require more. A 2.7 m wall also exceeds the nominal 2.6 m slab length, so this format needs a horizontal joint or a different panel arrangement.

Ask the local installer to price the wall preparation, fixing system and installation separately. Finalize spare material from the approved panel schedule rather than applying an arbitrary allowance to the net wall area.

Which slab size and thickness should I choose?

Choose the format after comparing the finished wall dimensions, openings, proposed joints and building access. This page lists formats from 900 × 1800 mm to 1600 × 3200 mm, with availability depending on the selected design. Ask Funtek to confirm the actual size and thickness combination. The local installer or engineer must approve the thickness and fixing system for the wall.

Can sintered stone wall panels be installed without joints?

A single panel may cover a small wall area, but larger walls usually require several panels. Joints may also be needed at corners, changes in the substrate and other locations specified by the installation system. Large slabs reduce the number of joints; they do not remove the need to plan them.

Are marble-look panels made from natural marble?

No. Marble-look sintered stone is a manufactured slab with a marble-style surface design. It is a different material from natural marble. Compare the product specification, sample and full slab pattern before deciding which material suits the project.

Can the panels be used on bathroom walls or around a fireplace?

These applications require a review of the complete wall assembly. Bathroom walls need suitable waterproofing, joints and fixing materials. Fireplace surrounds need the appliance manufacturer's clearance and temperature requirements, together with a suitable substrate and fixing system. Confirm the selected product and local installation requirements before purchase.

How should I clean an interior sintered stone wall?

Follow the care instructions for the selected product and finish. For routine cleaning, use a soft cloth and a suitable mild cleaner, then remove cleaner residue. Check cleaner compatibility with the slab, joints and adjacent metal or painted surfaces. Ask for product-specific guidance before removing installation residue or persistent stains.

Should I approve a physical sample before ordering?

Yes. Use a sample to review color, texture and finish under the project lighting. Also review the full slab image because a sample shows only part of the pattern. For multi-panel walls, confirm the slab sequence, any matching requirement and batch review arrangements before the order is finalized.
