The short answer

Choose the joint plan before choosing the marble pattern.

Sintered stone can create calm, large-format bathroom walls with fewer visual interruptions, but the material alone does not solve the room. A successful result depends on panel dimensions, substrate and waterproofing, corner treatment, openings, vein direction, handling access and the local installation system. We use those practical questions to guide the slab recommendation.

For bathroom walls

Use the largest practical panel the site can safely receive and install—not automatically the largest slab available. Plan joints around corners, doors, niches and handling access before the pattern layout is approved.

For vanity tops

Confirm the actual sink model, faucet position, backsplash height, front edge, side returns and cabinet support. A small vanity can require more fabrication decisions than a large plain wall.

For showers and wet floors

Separate the surface choice from the waterproofing system. The local installer must confirm substrate preparation, membranes, adhesive or fixing method, movement joints, drainage slope and slip requirements.

The same slab cannot be specified the same way everywhere.

Design the panel map before selecting the pattern.

The visual promise of a large-format bathroom wall is fewer interruptions. That promise can disappear if a joint lands through a niche, a narrow strip is left beside a door, or a full-height panel cannot enter the elevator. We begin with elevations and access, then fit the available slab format to the room.

  • Mark every wall width and height, inside and outside corner, door, window, pipe box, control opening and niche on an elevation drawing.
  • Decide which seams should disappear into corners and which must remain visible; directional and bookmatched patterns require a numbered panel sequence.
  • Confirm the substrate, waterproofing, adhesive or mechanical fixing method, movement joints and lifting route with the local installer before final panel sizes are approved.

Bathroom countertops

The small vanity drawing carries most of the fabrication risk.

A vanity top may use little material, yet it concentrates sink openings, faucet holes, narrow bridges, polished or mitred edges, wall irregularities and plumbing clearances into one piece. A realistic quote needs more than length × depth.

  • Send the exact basin brand and model, cutout template, faucet centre, drain location and the distance from each opening to the slab edges.
  • State whether you need a plain edge, mitred built-up front, backsplash, side splashes, waterfall return or matching cabinet panel.
  • Confirm cabinet support and final site measurements locally. For long double vanities, discuss transport length and whether a controlled seam is safer than one oversized fabricated piece.

Washbasins

Treat the sink and faucet as drawing coordinates, not accessories.

The basin determines how much stone remains around an opening, how water returns to the bowl and whether hands can reach the faucet and cleaning zones comfortably. Integrated-looking results come from resolving these relationships before fabrication.

  • Vessel basins usually need a drain opening and faucet clearance; undermount basins require an approved cutout, reveal detail and reliable support below the slab.
  • Fabricated basin concepts require project-specific shop drawings, drainage logic, bonded joints, edge finishing and cleaning access; they should never be assumed from a reference photo alone.
  • Check mirror, tap, soap dispenser, power socket and backsplash positions together so openings do not collide and daily use remains comfortable.

Shower surfaces

The slab is the finish surface; it is not the waterproofing system.

For shower walls, the hidden construction matters as much as the visible face. For wet floors or fabricated trays, drainage and slip requirements add another level of responsibility. We can help discuss the surface and fabrication direction, while the local project team must approve the complete wet-area system.

  • The installer must confirm a flat, stable substrate, compatible membrane and adhesive or fixing system, sealed penetrations, movement joints and local wet-area standards.
  • For floors, confirm drainage falls, drain geometry, threshold, barefoot slip requirement and how the selected finish performs in the intended environment.
  • Keep shower controls, niches and pipe penetrations away from fragile panel edges where practical, and approve all opening coordinates after final site measurement.

Bathroom furniture

Furniture panels can use the offcuts—if that reuse is planned early.

Vanity fronts, side panels and shelves can extend one surface language through the room and may improve slab utilisation. But doors and removable panels must remain serviceable, and a thin decorative skin still needs an appropriate backing and fixing strategy.

  • List each door, drawer front, side panel, shelf and removable access panel separately, including finished size, pattern direction and edge visibility.
  • Ask whether offcuts from walls or vanity pieces can be allocated before nesting is finalised; random leftovers may not have the right size or vein orientation.
  • The cabinet maker must confirm backing material, adhesive, hinges, hardware clearances, total door weight, ventilation and access for future plumbing maintenance.

What a detailed bathroom enquiry should contain.

A product name and total square metres are not enough for a responsible project quotation. These four information files show exactly what we need to understand material quantity, fabrication scope, packing and delivery assumptions—and which answers must come from the local project team.

FILE / 01

Site measurement and access file

Record the real geometry and the route each panel must travel. State clearly whether dimensions are structural, substrate or finished-surface dimensions.

  • Number every wall W01, W02, W03… and provide finished width and height for each wall separately; do not send only the room perimeter or total area.
  • Show floor build-up and finished floor level, ceiling height, wall out-of-square conditions, inside and outside corners, columns, pipe boxes and changes in wall thickness.
  • Dimension doors, windows, frames, inspection panels, sockets, shower controls and every penetration from two fixed reference edges.
  • For each niche, provide opening width, height and depth, sill slope, trim or mitred-edge preference and the thickness of the waterproofed substrate.
  • Provide room photos taken square to each wall plus wider photos showing corners, ceiling and floor relationships; label photos with the matching wall number.
  • Record crate unloading method, forklift or crane availability, doorway and corridor clear width, elevator car and door dimensions, stair turns and the largest piece the installation team will accept.

Panel, joint and pattern file

Convert each wall into named pieces before deciding quantity. This is where large-format visual continuity and realistic cutting yield are established.

  • Mark proposed panel boundaries and piece IDs on every wall elevation, including corner returns, narrow infill strips and panels above doors or below windows.
  • State the preferred joint width, sealant colour, inside-corner treatment, outside-corner detail and any local movement-joint requirement for installer approval.
  • Indicate the top direction of every directional slab and whether pieces should be random, continuous, mirrored, bookmatched or selected from the same visual sequence.
  • Identify focal walls and secondary walls so the strongest vein area can be reserved for the most visible position rather than consumed by hidden cuts.
  • List which offcuts may be reused for backsplash, niche lining, side returns, shelves or furniture fronts, together with minimum finished dimensions and pattern direction.
  • Confirm whether you are buying full slabs, cut-to-size panels or fully fabricated pieces; each option changes yield, responsibility, packing and the way the quotation is structured.

Vanity, basin and fabrication file

A fabrication drawing should describe finished pieces, openings and edges—not merely show an inspiration image of a completed bathroom.

  • Provide finished vanity length, depth and height; cabinet construction and support positions; wall conditions; overhang; and whether the top sits between walls or has exposed ends.
  • Name the exact basin manufacturer and model and attach its cutout template; state vessel, drop-in, undermount or fabricated basin direction and the required reveal.
  • Dimension faucet, drain, soap dispenser, overflow, power socket and control holes by centre point and diameter, measured from fixed finished edges.
  • Describe every exposed edge: factory edge, polished edge, mitred built-up front, apron, waterfall return, backsplash height, side splash and underside visibility.
  • Show mirror, tap, cabinet door and plumbing access zones so the backsplash, faucet and basin do not conflict and service access remains possible after installation.
  • Approve a final shop drawing after site measurement and before cutting; written dimensions on the approved drawing take priority over proportions seen in a rendering or photograph.

Quantity, packing and delivery file

The commercial quote becomes accurate only when material, processing and logistics assumptions are separated and the receiving conditions are known.

  • List project type, number of bathrooms or rooms, repeated room types, piece quantities by room and whether the order is prototype, first batch or complete project supply.
  • State product code, finish, thickness and preferred slab format for each application; identify acceptable alternatives rather than writing only ‘white marble look’.
  • Confirm whether pricing should include full slabs, cutting, edge finishing, mitres, openings, bonding, dry layout, piece numbering, sample approval or shop-drawing support.
  • Provide destination country, port or postal code, Incoterm request if known, site or warehouse address, unloading equipment and any delivery appointment or urban access restriction.
  • Explain how crates should be organised: by product, wall, bathroom type, floor or installation sequence; request piece labels that match the approved panel schedule.
  • Give the required arrival date and work backwards for sample approval, drawing confirmation, production, quality check, packing, vessel or truck schedule and customs clearance allowance.
Four shortcuts that usually create a later price change

Only sending m²

Area does not reveal slab yield, oversized pieces, openings, pattern matching or waste. Two rooms with the same area can require very different slab quantities and fabrication work.

Only sending a rendering

A rendering communicates mood but rarely contains finished dimensions, joint positions, edge details, substrate build-up or access limits. It cannot be used as a cutting drawing.

Writing ‘one sink cutout’

Vessel, drop-in and undermount basins require different openings, edge finishing and support. The exact model, template, reveal and hole coordinates change processing cost and risk.

Discussing freight last

Full slabs and long fabricated pieces affect crate type, container use, unloading and site access. A piece that cannot enter the building is not solved by good material selection.

Send a dimensioned plan or clear hand sketch showing wall height and width, doors, windows, niches, pipe boxes, shower screen, vanity and access route. Photos help us understand corners and obstructions that a square-metre total hides.

02 / PANEL

We turn the room into a panel map.

We compare wall spans with available slab formats, then discuss where vertical and horizontal joints could sit, how directional veins should continue, and whether offcuts can be reused for the backsplash, side returns or furniture panels.

03 / FABRICATION

Every opening becomes a drawing coordinate.

Before fabrication, the approved drawing should identify sink model, faucet holes, drain position, socket or control openings, niches, mitred edges, exposed returns and tolerances. Final site measurements remain essential before cutting.

04 / DELIVERY

The packing plan follows the delivery reality.

Tell us whether you need full slabs or fabricated pieces, the destination port or address, unloading equipment, elevator or stair limits, and whether a multi-room project needs crate and piece labels. This changes the practical quotation.

Is sintered stone suitable for bathroom walls?

Yes, sintered stone is commonly considered for large-format bathroom and shower wall cladding because it offers a low-absorption surface and can reduce the number of visible joints. Suitability still depends on the panel size, substrate, waterproofing, fixing system, movement joints and local installation requirements. The slab is the visible finish; it must not be treated as a replacement for the waterproof membrane behind a wet-area wall.

Can I use the same surface for the wall and vanity top?

Yes, using one pattern family across the wall, vanity top, backsplash and selected furniture panels can make the bathroom feel calmer. The pieces do not necessarily need the same thickness: a vertical wall panel may use a thinner format while the vanity top may use 12 mm or a built-up edge. Confirm availability, finish, shade or batch coordination and pattern direction before production.

Which thickness is best for bathroom walls?

Are sintered stone shower trays possible?

They can be considered, but a reference photo is not enough to quote or approve one. The project must resolve substrate and waterproofing, tray support, slope, linear or point drain geometry, threshold, bonded seams, movement joints, selected finish and the applicable barefoot slip requirement. Funtek can discuss the surface and fabrication direction; the local designer, fabricator and installer must approve the complete wet-area assembly.

What should I send for a bathroom quotation?

Send a dimensioned plan and wall elevations if available, plus room photos, wall heights and widths, openings and niches, vanity dimensions, exact sink model, faucet and accessory holes, shower or floor details, preferred products and finish, estimated quantity, full slabs or fabricated pieces, project location, delivery destination and required timing. If you only have a hand sketch, send it—the first useful step is identifying what information is still missing.

How many joints will a sintered stone bathroom wall need?

The answer comes from the wall elevation, selected slab size, safe handling size and site access—not from room area alone. A full-height panel may remove a horizontal joint, but vertical joints may still be needed around corners, doors, niches or long walls. We recommend drawing every panel and placing necessary joints deliberately before the vein layout is approved. The installer should confirm joint width, sealant, movement requirements and corner treatment.

What changes the price of a sintered stone bathroom project?

Price is affected by product and finish, slab size and thickness, required quantity, cutting yield and waste, bookmatching or pattern sequencing, sink and faucet openings, mitred edges, fabricated basins or trays, number and size of finished pieces, protective packing, destination and delivery method. A square-metre price alone cannot represent a project with fabrication and export packing, so we separate material, processing and logistics assumptions in the quotation.
