If the grease disappears while a cloudy area remains, repeat the clean-water pass before changing chemistry. A second cleaner added on top of soap film makes the symptom harder to interpret.
Limescale and hard-water rings
Use an anti-limescale product that the current Silestone instructions permit. Cosentino's maintenance manual gives a one-minute contact time for a compatible descaler, followed by plenty of water and drying; the cleaner label may impose a shorter time or extra precautions.
Keep the descaler on the countertop area only. The same product can affect the finish of a nearby faucet, sink, drain trim, or metal fitting, so protect or wipe those materials separately.
Rust, oxide, and dark metal marks
First decide whether the mark came from a wet steel can or pan, or from an object rubbing across the surface. Deposited rust needs a compatible oxide/rust cleaner; a grey streak may be metal transfer sitting on the surface rather than a cut into it.

Use neutral cleaning for daily care; use bleach only when the current instructions for the exact installed product define the dilution, contact time, rinse, and finish compatibility.
Never mix bleach with acids, ammonia, vinegar, or another cleaner. If the bottle, care sheet, or installed product cannot be identified, skip the experiment and ask the installer or Silestone service channel for the current instruction.
Separate Removable Film from Permanent Surface Change
A removable film usually changes when wet, feels slightly grabby or slippery, and responds evenly to the rinse-dry cycle. Chemical or abrasive damage is more likely when the dry patch has a stable difference in gloss or texture, remains unchanged after a controlled clean, or becomes more visible from a low side angle.
- Clean one small area with the Level 1 method and dry it completely.
- Compare it from the side under the same light as the surrounding surface.
- If the boundary moves or fades, continue the same gentle process.
- If the boundary stays sharp, the gloss looks different, or the texture feels changed, stop.
More cleaner cannot reverse a chemically altered factory surface or restore its original finish. A professional can identify whether the area is residue, installation contamination, or permanent finish change and advise whether a repair is realistic.
Avoid Products and Tools That Remove the Finish with the Stain
The Silestone maintenance manual excludes or restricts several high-risk products because the cleaner itself can become the damage source.
- Do not use metal scouring pads.
- Do not use paint stripper, caustic soda, drain opener, or oven/grill cleaner.
- Keep hydrofluoric-acid products away from the surface.
- Do not add sealers, water repellents, waxes, or polish to create an artificial shine.
