Choose slab size from the finished layout

Begin with every finished part: straight runs, island, splashback, waterfall ends, upstands, and test pieces. Add the fabricator's perimeter trim and machining allowances, then nest those parts inside the usable slab—not the nominal catalogue rectangle.

A 3200 mm slab does not automatically produce a 3200 mm finished counter. Rectification, edge damage, pattern placement, kerf, miter returns, and handling space all consume material. A fewer-seam design is valuable only when the finished part can be fabricated, supported, transported through the building, and installed without forcing the slab.

Match thickness to the exact product and assembly

Many marble-look porcelain slabs carry their design mainly at the surface, so a straight polished edge can reveal a different body color. A miter can create visual thickness, but it also introduces a cut, glue line, arris, and alignment standard. Inspect a finished sample under the actual project lighting.

Plan seams, pattern, and delivery together

Place seams where parts can be handled and supported, not only where the drawing looks quiet. For lifts, stairs, corridors, and tight turns, test a rigid route template matching the largest finished part.

Large-format work should be assigned to a fabricator who can show completed projects using the same product category, suitable cutting and lifting equipment, and a documented inspection process.   1. The current product technical sheet and fabrication manual.
  2. Purchase details that match the approved product code, finish, thickness, backing, and batch.

  4. A scaled nesting drawing showing parts, seams, cutouts, pattern direction, miters, and trim allowances.
  5. Cabinet, substrate, support, overhang, sink, and appliance details.
  6. Finished edge and seam samples accepted under project lighting.
  7. Crating, lifting, delivery-route, installation, and protection plans.
  8. Named inspection points and responsibility if the approved layout or product is not followed.

If the supplier cannot connect these documents, the project is not ready for release—even if the slab sample looks perfect.
