Can sintered stone be used for flooring?

Yes—when the selected product, finish and installed floor system are approved for the actual traffic and exposure.

Sintered stone can create broad, low-joint floor compositions in homes, hotels, retail interiors and public spaces. That category-level answer is only the beginning. A slab that is suitable for a dry residential living room is not automatically the correct finish for an entrance exposed to rain, a commercial kitchen, a pool transition or an exterior terrace.

Start with the floor zone, not the pattern

The same visual can require different finishes, modules and installation details as it moves from a private dry room into an entrance, wet zone or exterior area.

01 / RESIDENTIAL

Living areas and connected interiors

Large modules can reduce visual interruption across living, dining and circulation zones. Plan thresholds, perimeter conditions, underfloor heating, cabinet locations and the direction of long patterns before finalizing the cut plan.

02 / HOSPITALITY

Lobbies, hotels and reception areas

Entrances combine grit, water tracking, luggage wheels and concentrated footfall. The finish evidence, entrance matting, cleaning plan and replacement strategy matter as much as the slab appearance.

03 / RETAIL

Retail and commercial interiors

Display loads, trolley traffic, fast fit-out programmes and maintenance equipment should be included in the brief. Layout modules must coordinate storefront lines, columns, service covers and future tenant changes.

04 / WET INTERIOR

Bathrooms and wet transitions

Low water absorption does not prove safe traction. Confirm the exact wet-area finish, test method, drainage, falls, cleaning residue and local requirements for the intended barefoot or footwear condition.

05 / PUBLIC

Corridors and public circulation

Review wheel loads, point loads, substrate deflection, acoustic requirements, joints and maintenance access. A documented floor assembly is more useful than selecting a thicker slab without system context.

06 / EXTERIOR

Exterior floors and indoor-outdoor continuity

Specify only a product, finish, thickness and installation system approved for the climate and exposure. Freeze-thaw, thermal cycling, drainage, UV, wind-driven rain and structural movement can change the correct solution.

Do not extend an interior approval to an exterior floor because the color name is the same. Confirm the exact product code, finish, technical data and installation assembly for each zone.

The floor succeeds as a system, not as a slab alone

Large-format work is less forgiving of an uneven or moving base. The responsible designer and installer should approve the complete build-up using the selected manufacturer's current instructions and local standards.

Exact product, finish and test report

Approve the actual SKU and production finish. A finish name or visual texture cannot substitute for test evidence relevant to the intended traffic and contamination condition.

Format, thickness and handling route

Choose the module and thickness with the substrate, use class, cut geometry, lifting equipment, access and installation team. There is no universal best flooring thickness.

Substrate condition

Record flatness, strength, curing, residual moisture, cracks, heating, waterproofing and deflection before ordering. Large modules reveal deviations and cannot correct a moving substrate.

Adhesive and full support

Use a system compatible with the slab, substrate and exposure. The approved method should achieve the required transfer and support to edges and corners without hidden voids.

Joints and movement

Carry structural movement through the finish and coordinate perimeter, intermediate and field joints with the engineer, tile system supplier and local standard. Do not use a zero-joint layout.

Mock-up and maintenance

Build a representative area using the proposed slab, adhesive, grout, joints and cleaning process. Approve appearance, lippage, soundness, traction and cleanability before full release.
